Permanent outdoor lighting is a slim aluminium channel mounted along your roofline, eaves and gables, holding individually addressable RGB LEDs with the wiring concealed behind it. It stays on the house year-round. You control it from an app — warm white as an everyday default, colour and patterns when you want them, off when you want the house dark. It replaces the annual cycle of hanging and removing Christmas lights, and unlike those lights it is useful the rest of the year.

Three components, and it is worth knowing what each one is because the quality difference between installers lives in all three.
The channel. A low-profile aluminium track, colour-matched to your fascia or trim, that the diodes sit inside. This is the part you look at in daylight for the next fifteen years, so the colour match and the line it runs are not a detail. A track that steps up and down where the soffit changes height, or one in a colour that nearly matches, is visible from the street forever.
The diodes. Individually addressable RGB LEDs, spaced consistently, with a lens that throws a clean point of light rather than a smear. Individual addressing is what allows patterns, gradients, alternating colours and single zones rather than one solid colour across the whole house.
The controller and wiring. A controller wired to an exterior outlet or a dedicated circuit, with the low-voltage runs routed out of sight — behind downspouts, along trim lines, through soffit where appropriate. Visible wire running down a brick elevation is the most common way a permanent system ends up looking temporary.
Lighting a house is not the same as outlining a house. On a simple gable-front ranch, running the front roofline and the two rakes is usually the whole answer. On a two-storey custom home with four roof planes, three dormers, a portico and a bay, lighting every edge produces something that reads as a commercial building at night. The good version selects: the dominant roof plane, the architectural features worth pulling forward, and the lines that give the house its shape from the street.
That is why we walk the property rather than measuring off aerial imagery. Where you stand when you pull into the drive, what the neighbouring elevation looks like, how much mature hardwood cover sits between the house and the road — all of it changes the layout. North Georgia's tree canopy in particular means two houses of the same floor plan on the same street can need different designs.
Most owners settle into warm white as the standing scene, because at 2700K–3000K a roofline system stops reading as decoration and starts reading as architectural lighting. From there the calendar gets used more than people expect: orange through October, red and green from Thanksgiving, red white and blue for Memorial Day and the Fourth, school or team colours during football season, and whatever a given cause is running that month.
Scheduling handles the rest. The system comes on at dusk and off at a set hour, without anyone deciding to do it. That is also the security argument — a house that is reliably lit every night, rather than lit on the nights someone remembered.

Barely, when it is installed correctly. The channel is colour-matched to the trim or fascia it mounts against, and it is low-profile enough to read as part of the trim line at street distance. You can see it if you stand under the eave and look for it. Nobody driving past does.
The two things that make a system obvious in daylight are a bad colour match and sloppy line work — track that wanders off the fascia line or steps awkwardly around a corner. Both are installation decisions rather than product limits.
Most residential installations run one to two days. A single-storey home with a simple roofline can be finished in a day. Larger homes, multi-plane roofs, steep pitches, and jobs that include landscape lighting or additional zones run longer.

Yes. The system runs from a phone or tablet app: brightness, colour, patterns, zones and schedules, plus pre-built holiday scenes. You can change a scene from anywhere, and you can set it to run itself and never open the app again. Both are normal.
It is quoted per property, and the honest answer is that the range is wide enough that a phone estimate would be a guess. The price is driven by linear feet of roofline, how many separate roof planes are being lit, height and access, and whether landscape lighting or additional zones are included. A single-storey ranch and a two-storey custom home are not close.
What we can tell you is that the price comes in writing after a free site visit, before anything is scheduled, and it does not change afterwards unless you change the scope.
The system is warrantied, and service is part of what an owner-operated company is for. Individually addressable LEDs mean a fault is usually a section rather than the whole run, and it is diagnosable — the controller tells us a good deal before anyone gets on a ladder.
Because the hardware stays on the house, service is straightforward: the same people who installed it come back to it. There is no reinstallation window to wait for.
For many customers, yes — that is the usual reason people move to it. A permanent system runs warm white most of the year and changes colour for the holidays, so there is no install and no takedown, ever again.
Where it does not fully replace a traditional display is the elements that are not on the roofline: wrapped trees, wreaths, garland on columns. Some people keep a small seasonal add-on for those and let the permanent system carry the roof.
